Welcome to the HKUST School of Humanities and Social Science. We are a leading interdisciplinary program in the humanities and social science in Greater China and the only one with an explicit comparative perspective, as exemplified by our undergraduate and graduate degrees in Global China Studies. Our university is committed to pursuing excellence in both research and education. What distinguishes us from peer institutions is our cultivation of global best practice in multi-disciplinary graduate training and placement, engagement of students in faculty research, and the impact of our scholarship. We have developed strategic partnerships with several North American, European, and Chinese universities, including the California Institute of Technology, Lund University, Nanjing University, Peking University, Shandong University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shantou University, Sichuan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Zhejiang University, the University of Virginia, and Waseda University. These partnerships provide ample opportunities for international faculty and student research and collaboration, faculty and student exchanges, joint student training, and dualdegree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Along with our high rankings by QS and Times Higher Education, these partnerships attest to our standing both as a university of the world and as a world university. We are especially proud of our placement of MA, MSc, MPhil and PhD graduates in leading institutions around the world. I invite you to browse our website to learn more about our faculty, our teaching mission, our classes, our research, and the opportunities our school provides to the world, to China, and especially to Hong Kong.
