How can I identify supervisor or co-advisor(s) before submitting the application for the research postgraduate studies?

  • You are advised to look into our faculty's research areas at fytgs.hkust.edu.hk/faculty and explore if there is a match with your research interest, while submitting the application in the Online Admission System.
  • For application to the MPhil/PhD in Individualized Interdisciplinary Program (Research Area), you are required to form a research team, which is composed of at least two faculty members working on different research areas to warrant that the research is interdisciplinary in nature.

If I have submitted an application for PhD, will I be considered for MPhil in case I am deemed not suitable for the PhD program?

  • Applicants may submit separate applications for PhD and MPhil and would be required to settle the application fee for each application. Should you have enquiries about the selection requirements, you may wish to contact the Department.

Is there any difference if I apply to programs of HKUST as a local or non-local applicant?

  • Application procedures and admission requirements are the same for both local and non-local applicants of programs of HKUST.
  • However, some taught postgraduate programs may have different tuition fees for local and non-local students. Please click here and refer to “General Information” tab of individual program page for details.
  • For definition of non-local students, please click here.
  • Also, most non-local students require student visa/ entry permit to study and stay in Hong Kong.
