Below is the study milestone which will help you set important goals for your two-year MPhil study (full-time) or three/four-year PhD study (full-time).

English Language Proficiency Assessment

All new full-time RPg students are required to take the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) Speaking Test before the start of your first term of study to ensure you have the oral and aural skills for effective postgraduate studies and classroom teaching. Please register for the test here.

Students who are unable to attain the threshold score or fail to take the test are required to take and pass LANG 5000 Foundation in Listening and Speaking for Postgraduate Students to improve your spoken English before graduation.

PhD Qualifying Exam

Students enrolled on PhD programs are required to pass a qualifying examination within a stipulated period in order to obtain the PhD candidacy.  Check your program-specific requirements in the Program Catalog.

Annual Progress Reporting

You will report your study progress through an online Annual Progress Reporting system upon completion of each year of study.  Your Thesis Supervisor and Thesis Supervision Committee will review the report and discuss the study plan for the coming year with you.
