What are the consequences of submitting forged documents in application for admission to programs in HKUST?

  • Submitting forged documents to HKUST is a serious misconduct that the university takes very seriously. 
  • Any applicants found to have submitted falsified, forged, or misleading documents or information will be disqualified from consideration for admission, and any admission offers made will be revoked immediately.
  • The University has a zero-tolerance policy towards admission fraud. There were previous instances where students found to have submitted forged documents during admission were expelled from the University. In another instance, graduates who obtained admission offer based on forged documents had their conferred degrees revoked.
  • Submitting forged documents is also a crime under the Crime Ordinance (Cap. 200 of the laws of Hong Kong). A person committing the offence of forgery may face imprisonment of up to 14 years on conviction. The University will refer admission fraud matters to the police for investigation and handling.
