By joining the MPhil program at HKUST, I have envisaged to learn the sophisticated historical research method and to have a glimpse into the researchers' life. My research focuses on tax non-compliance and corruption in post-WWII Hong Kong. In view of the inadequate available sources in Hong Kong, I needed to visit the British National archives. As research postgraduate students, we are given generous research grants to conduct overseas archival research. The HKUST MPhil program provides us with vast opportunities for self-discovery, character-building and knowledge creation. I am thankful to be one of the HKUST research postgraduates.
