Surrounded by limpid sea water and deep blue sky, the beautiful campus helps students to relax from their busy assignments. We are offered plenty of opportunities here to train critical mindsets, expand international horizons, improve technical skills and build social networks. My peers are always here to help out when I face difficulties. We grow for better together. Come join HKUST and find your own sunshine and tomorrow!
Sai-Kit YEUNG
My graduate studies at HKUST taught me how to conduct world-class quality research. I gained a very strong technical foundation, and after years of hard work, I felt that I was personally resilient. I wouldn’t give up easily. I gained confidence. It also gave me the opportunity to travel around the world, work in different places, cooperate with and also compete with the best. I am always proud to be from HKUST, and after all these experiences, I feel very grateful to come back and contribute to my alma mater!

Charikleia STOURA
A specialist in the field of vehicle-bridge interaction in railway systems, Charikleia’s research focuses on the dynamic response of trains moving on high-speed railway bridges during earthquakes. The primary goal of her work is to evaluate the safety and reliability of high-speed railway train-bridge systems. As high-speed rail networks expand worldwide, this area of research offers a whole host of opportunities in both the academic and industrial fields.
Weiqi XUE
Xue Weiqi is currently a PhD candidate in Civil Engineering. His company, INNOWAT Limited, was set up last year to help wastewater treatment plants produce sulfated polysaccharides (a valuable and widely used industrial feedstock) so they can generate profit and reduce pollution at the same time. "Creating economic profit to compensate for operational costs during wastewater treatment is promising and important, especially for developing countries.
Nore STOLTE
Even though I joined the University, first and foremost, to do research, the courses and workshops offered have helped me become a well-rounded scientist. The HK PhD Fellowship has relieved my financial worries and provided funds for me to travel to conferences, summer schools and workshops. In addition, it has given me a network of students working in an array of fields very different from my own.
Hijiri MIYAZAKI
I’ve been enjoying my studies at HKUST very much. Different from my home university, HKUST offers me ample opportunities to engage in learning the latest research topics. Thanks to the Asian Future Leaders Scholarship, I have been given a chance to join a summer camp to learn and exchange ideas with talents around the globe in Beijing this year. I am also excited about my life in Hong Kong. I enjoy local food like dim sum and have started to explore Chinese history while I am here.
