AFLSP provided me with great awareness of contemporary cultural issues. With generous funding from HKUST and AFLSP programs, I was able to explore my research topic without worrying too much.

Weiqi XUE

Xue Weiqi is currently a PhD candidate in Civil Engineering. His company, INNOWAT Limited, was set up last year to help wastewater treatment plants produce sulfated polysaccharides (a valuable and widely used industrial feedstock) so they can generate profit and reduce pollution at the same time. "Creating economic profit to compensate for operational costs during wastewater treatment is promising and important, especially for developing countries.

I’ve been enjoying my studies at HKUST very much. Different from my home university, HKUST offers me ample opportunities to engage in learning the latest research topics. Thanks to the Asian Future Leaders Scholarship, I have been given a chance to join a summer camp to learn and exchange ideas with talents around the globe in Beijing this year. I am also excited about my life in Hong Kong.  I enjoy local food like dim sum and have started to explore Chinese history while I am here.

Siyu ZHOU

Through the Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program (AFLSP), I have learned and understood more about different cultures in Asia, especially about the relations between China and Japan. Also, the one-month summer camp organized by AFLSP has taught me about the problems that the countries in Asia were facing and how we could help fix them through different discussions. What's more, I have made some great friends whom I treasure for life.

Kin Yew FONG

HKUST is a good place not only to gain academic knowledge but also to cultivate leadership and entrepreneurial thinking. Also, thanks to the Asian Future Leaders Scheme Program (AFLSP), it allows me to learn about cultures from different Asian countries. My dream to study in Hong Kong would not come true without the AFLSP. I hope that I can contribute to this society with my knowledge acquired here in the future.

I really liked HKUST when I came to HKUST as a visiting intern. A combination of world class faculty, excellent facilities, stunning sea views and ample opportunities is surely unique. And that is why I'm pursuing my PhD studies here now. I am also thilled to become a Hong Kong PhD Fellowship awardee here.
