Life at HKUST is like a box of chocolates with various flavors. You can experience both Eastern and Western cultures on campus. Studying here combines tough research work with an environment that makes life easy. Every day is new and you never know what experiences it will bring.

I very much enjoy and appreciate the academic environment at HKUST. Since the first day of my PhD program, I have been encouraged and given ample opportunities to develop and pursue research projects of my own interests. The research training here is rigorous, and the faculty members are very supportive. I am also grateful for the conference travel allowance provided by the HK PhD Fellowship. It allows me to attend international conferences and exchange ideas with scholars worldwide.

I am glad to have lived at HKUST for 5 years. I enjoyed my campus life so much as HKUST has fantastic scenery, including lots of green and a great sea view. Also, HKUST is a very efficient campus so students can quickly walk from one place to another, get immediate responses from offices, and meet frequently with supervisors. Lastly, I was surrounded by many nice people including talented students, creative faculty and friendly department staff.

My life at HKUST is exciting. I enjoy the experience of doing research with leading, diligent and enthusiastic professors. I have also benefited a lot from an exchange with Carnegie Mellon University which was supported by HKUST. I hope I can continue my research in on-chip networks and contribute to the field of electrical engineering with what I have learned from HKUST.

I joined the Bioengineering Program in HKUST as a PhD student after graduation from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 2010. My research area is engineering microorganisms for novel applications in biofuel and bioproduction. I enjoyed the international exposure HKUST provided to the postgraduate students including overseas conferences and interdisciplinary collaborations with other departments and universities.

HKUST is a very nice place to do research and pursue postgraduate studies. The campus has got a great sea view and beautiful scenery. And I am so lucky to be one of the awardees of the Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program (AFLSP) which aims to support young people from Asia to pursue academic excellence and develop cross-cultural sensitivity. I have met many new friends from all over Asia through the AFLSP. It's interesting to learn more about the Sino-Japanese culture as well. Also, I am thrilled to become a HK PhD Fellowship Awardee here.
