As a PhD student at HKUST, I realize life here is full of challenges, which always go along with chances, the chance to turn you into a good researcher and the chance to teach you how to deal with unfamiliar or even difficult situations with calm and confidence. Finally you just find with no surprise that after years of training in HKUST, you are already fully-prepared for a challenging and exciting future. HKUST life helps me enjoy my present life, and will also enable me to enjoy my life in the future.

I was privileged to be awarded the HK PhD Fellowship. Indeed, the generous scholarship allowed me to further my study without financial worries. Hong Kong, being a Chinese city which runs a Westernized system, is an excellent portal for foreigners like me to learn about and connect with China. It also has many quality universities, rivaling other major education hubs such as Boston and London. And the research environment at HKUST is excellent. Research students can learn not only from experienced professors but also from highly motivated and passionate fellow students.

I fell in love with HKUST at first sight, deeply impressed by the fantastic sea views and the exquisite buildings. During the past three years, I have enjoyed doing research with outstanding, diligent and inspirational professors in the field of linguistics. I also enjoy walking around for a break and the magnificent views are an inspiration. I am sure that my experience in HKUST will have a long-lasting influence on my whole life, both academically and personally.

HKUST is a young world-class university, which provides high-quality education to nurture students to be outstanding academics and pillars of society. I am delighted to be one of the members in this family and pursue both my BEng and PhD degrees here. Currently, my research is mainly about soil-plant interaction focusing Chinese medicinal plants. Although it is sometimes challenging, I do enjoy the research process. Through overcoming challenges, I have better equipped myself for future research, which may create greater impacts for the society.
