I very much enjoy and appreciate the academic environment at HKUST. Since the first day of my PhD program, I have been encouraged and given ample opportunities to develop and pursue research projects of my own interests. The research training here is rigorous, and the faculty members are very supportive. I am also grateful for the conference travel allowance provided by the HK PhD Fellowship. It allows me to attend international conferences and exchange ideas with scholars worldwide.

Danhui CHENG

I joined the Bioengineering Program in HKUST as a PhD student after graduation from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 2010. My research area is engineering microorganisms for novel applications in biofuel and bioproduction. I enjoyed the international exposure HKUST provided to the postgraduate students including overseas conferences and interdisciplinary collaborations with other departments and universities.

I'm grateful for what I am learning, where I am studying and the people I work with. If you come here and work hard and with enthusiasm, HKUST will be a place where you find that nothing is impossible.

HKUST is a very nice place to do research and pursue postgraduate studies. The campus has got a great sea view and beautiful scenery. And I am so lucky to be one of the awardees of the Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program (AFLSP) which aims to support young people from Asia to pursue academic excellence and develop cross-cultural sensitivity. I have met many new friends from all over Asia through the AFLSP. It's interesting to learn more about the Sino-Japanese culture as well. Also, I am thrilled to become a HK PhD Fellowship Awardee here.

The supportive learning environment offered at HKUST has allowed me to explore knowledge and to apply it in order to improve the lives of ordinary people. It gives me great satisfaction, a feeling beyond words. I hope everyone who reads this can follow their dreams as I have!

Jan VOSECKY

Jan believes HKUST not only offered him a fulfilling research experience but also lots of opportunities outside studies that helped him grow and realize his talents. Now an Associate Director at MCON Shanghai, a German consultancy firm focusing on digital transformation in the areas of marketing, sales and aftersales, he credits the University for giving him a strong research background in computer science and big data analysis that has laid a firm foundation for his current job.

George Alexandru TILITA

Alex's start-up, 3DK Tech limited, was established as a result of his PhD research at HKUST, with the resources that he said would have been very difficult to access back home in Romania. While in the University, he and his team developed a novel way of metal 3D printing - the proprietary Ultrasonic metal 3D printing technology, which adds a great deal of efficiency and reliability to Selective Laser Melting (SLM), the leading metal 3D printing process in the market.
